Ingredients
- •2 blocks (14 oz each) silken tofu, chilled
- •1/4 cup bonito flakes
- •2 green onions, thinly sliced
- •1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- •4 tbsp soy sauce
- •Sesame oil, a few drops (optional)
Steps
- 1.Drain the tofu and pat it dry gently with a paper towel, handling it carefully since silken tofu is delicate and breaks easily.
- 2.Cut each block into large cubes or simply halve it and place directly in a shallow bowl.
- 3.Top with the bonito flakes, sliced green onion, and grated ginger, keeping the toppings light - no more than about a quarter of the tofu's volume - so they season rather than overwhelm the tofu.
- 4.Drizzle with soy sauce and a few drops of sesame oil if using.
- 5.Serve immediately, cold, straight from the fridge, with no cooking required - hiyayakko is meant to be the ultimate five-minute side dish.
